23-O by Roger

As I write this, it’s 11 O’CLOCK, or “of the clock” in the morning, Eastern Daylight Time. That happens to be the time ABC Wednesday usually starts each Tuesday for ME. But what time is it for YOU?

It’s 4 O’CLOCK on Tuesday afternoon in London, the time zone where ABC Wednesday’s creator, Mrs. Nesbitt is from. And it’s 5 O’CLOCK Tuesday afternoon where Melody resides.

It’s 6 O’CLOCK on Tuesday evening in Beirut, Lebanon and Tel Aviv, Israel; 8:30 O’CLOCK Tuesday night in Mumbai, India; and 11 O’CLOCK Tuesday night in Manila, the Philippines. But it’s 2 O’CLOCK very early Wednesday morning in Sydney, Australia, and 4 O’CLOCK early Wednesday morning in Auckland, New Zealand.

All calculations courtesy, thank goodness, of Time and Date.

But these will soon change because of Daylight Saving Time. It ends in most of Europe on October 28 but not in most of the United States and Canada until November 4. And in the Southern Hemisphere, DST has either already just started (Australia, New Zealand) or is about to (Brazil).

It’s interesting that, even in a world of digital clocks, that there are still references to clock faces in terms of direction, such as, “That plane is coming in from 9 O’CLOCK.”

No matter what O’CLOCK you come to visit, or what time zone, we ask you to clock into our ABC Wednesday widget and leave your links.

22-O by Beverly

This week at ABC Wednesday, O gets centre stage.

O is for ONE and Opportunity – because it really only takes one opportunity to succeed.

This month I have been taking part in the A to Z April Blogging Challenge. For this challenge, I have been creating art tags, using stamps I have carved.

I carved the number one for O – and found two quotes I liked – therefor had to create 2 tags.

When opportunity comes our way, we need to know how to recognize it.  There are many quotes referring to this:

If opportunity doesn’t knock, build a door.
Milton Berle

Success is where preparation and opportunity meet.
Bobby Unser

Every day is a new opportunity.
Bob Feller

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.

Thomas A. Edison

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.
Winston Churchill

Luck is where opportunity meets preparation.
Seneca

Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.
William Arthur Ward

When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.
Helen Keller
