23-U by Roger

United NationsI was somehow inspired to note all the countries that start with U that have been in the United Nations. The ones in italics are no longer alphabetically qualified, but the ones in bold are.

1945:
Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic – On 24 August 1991, it changed its name to Ukraine.

Union of South Africa – In 1961, it changed its name to South Africa.

Union of Soviet Socialist Republics – In a letter dated 24 December 1991, Boris Yeltsin, the President of the Russian Federation, informed the Secretary-General that the membership of the Soviet Union in the Security Council and all other United Nations organs was being continued by the Russian Federation with the support of the 11 member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

United Kingdom

United States

Uruguay

1958
Egypt and Syria were original Members of the United Nations from 24 October 1945. Following a plebiscite on 21 February 1958, the United Arab Republic was established by a union of Egypt and Syria and continued as a single Member.
On 13 October 1961, Syria, having resumed its status as an independent State, resumed its separate membership in the United Nations.
On 2 September 1971, the United Arab Republic changed its name to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

1960
Upper Volta – In 1984, Upper Volta informed the United Nations that it had changed its name to Burkina Faso.

1962
Uganda

1964
Tanganyika was a Member of the United Nations from 14 December 1961 and Zanzibar was a Member from 16 December 1963. Following the ratification on 26 April 1964 of Articles of Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the United Republic of Tanganyika and Zanzibar continued as a single Member, changing its name to the United Republic of Tanzania on 1 November 1964.

1971
United Arab Emirates

I find this exercise interesting because it notes the changing nature of the world, such as the decolonization of Africa, and the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Whether or not your country starts with U, or whether it’s ever changed its name, ABC Wednesday’s mission has NOT changed. We welcome the participation of people from around the globe.

What an appropriate week for ABC Wednesday – as T gets centre stage.

So – T is for  Thanksgiving and of course, turkey:

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the U.S!

A perfect turkey for this special day – on Thursday, created by my young granddaughter.

In Canada, we celebrated Thanksgiving in October. There are some differences in our two celebrations. Check here to see how.

T is also for thanks.

Having an attitude of gratitude is so important. So many health benefits have been shown to take place when we give thanks, when we are giving, when we keep a gratitude journal and record what we are thankful for.

The blog “Newly Creative” is hosting  21 Days of Practising Gratitude. Do check it out here.

…Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

Do you know we’re running to the last part of this round? Including this S, 8 to go still… time does fly, doesn’t it? In just a couple of weeks Round 24 will start… how about that? Maybe a little earlie on both counts but I already want to thank you for your loyal participation and visits with comments and also I already want to invite you to stay on, or join if you’re new, to our meme!
We love to may greet you and look at that what goes through your mind thinking of the letter wich turn it is.
By the way… writing this I come to think of it that I need to come up with a new logo and such… or is there someone amongst you who would love to design one?
If so, please let me know!

Back to the present…

For 23-S

I’ve chosen 2 animals wich I like very much! Although I prefer birds above all, I really can not name, to be honest, 1 animal that is my nr.1 favorite. Besides birds…. these two are very special and delicate, gorgeous to look at, ‘just’ 2 of the wonderful species that live on our planet, 2 of so many.

These two animals I photographed in a Zoo, at a little 3 hours drive from where I live, from the north-east part of The Netherlands to the south-west part of it, Rotterdam to be precise. Blijdorp as it is called. I visit it twice a year but these two photo’s are from januari 2017, the other photo’s of that visit can be watched HERE

The most mesmarising creature of the sea to me: The Seahorse… in Dutch we call them “Zeepaardje” unlike many other animals this animals name is liturally translated.

Secondly… the Serval, a very beautiful and rare feline. In Dutch we don’t have another name for it, we call it Serval also.

Have a splendid, ♥-warming ABC-wednes-day / – week!

23 R- by Roger

Hi, my name is Roger and I am a blogger. I guess I really must identify myself as such because I have been doing it, EVERY DAY, since May 2, 2005.

I used to blog at http://rogerowengreen.blogspot.com/. In fact, that blog is still there. I’ve bumped up a bunch of links I was following back in 2010-2012; some are dead, but some, impressively, are still functional.

And once you get below the links, the blog from 2005- May 2, 2010 (and some random later posts) is all there.

Then I got my blog with my name on it. Well, it’s https://www.rogerogreen.com, because rogergreen.com was taken.

Oh, the duck. That’s me, as rendered by Raoul Vezina. It was used in a couple comic books. Unfortunately, Raul died from an asthma attack at the age of 35 back in 1983.

When I needed an avatar for social media, it was the only real choice.

As some of you know, I was the person who ran ABC Wednesday for Rounds 11-20, after Mrs. Desise Nesbitt, the originator of this enterprise.

And now, Melody is in charge. I’ve agreed to stay around assisting her, at least through Round 25. In that role, I try to visit each of your posts. It might take a few days, but I make the effort.

This whole thing is SO much better when each you visit folks, optimally sites you hadn’t seen before.
