21-Y by Beverly

ABC 21-120716

Hard to believe we are almost at the end of Round 21.

This week we are focusing on Y .

Y is for Yellowknife – the capital of the North West Territories, in Canada’s far north. It can be found on the north shore of Great Slave Lake. Almost 20,000 people live there.

Yellowknife is considered the gateway to the north. Most planes from the south, stop in Yellowknife before flying further north.

Over forty years ago, I made my first trip north on my way to Inuvik and we stopped in Yellowknife. Every trip I made after that I stopped there both coming or going from Inuvik. I also made several stopovers as well and found it an interesting place to visit.

There is much to see and do in Yellowknife – from parks, to tours of all kinds.

It is also a special place to see the Northern Lights.

From Wikipedia: “Founded in 1934, the city is located in the traditional territory of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation who founded the nearby community of Dettah in the early 1930s. The city of Yellowknife has its origins in gold mining and was designated as territorial capital in 1967.”

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas holiday!
